Classification of Betta Show

Other breeds

Big Ears

The distinctive feature of these specimens is the excessive development of the pectoral fins.
These fins looks like big ears, hence the name. For the same reason, they are also called Dumbo.
This characteristic was first selected on Plakat specimens, however nowadays it is spreading also to Halfmoon ones.

Bonsai

Lately, it seems to have spread in the Asian market this new variety from a  physical malformation, as already seen in the Betta Ranchu.
These specimens are precisely characterized by a body of smaller dimensions with marked humps, particularly evident on the back.

The specimen in the photo, according to the fins, should be classified as a Plakat Big Ears; they seem to be widespread even with other type of fins.
Being a relatively recent selection, it is not possible to know how this selection will affect the health of these specimens.
